MR.PL. House: A Landmark of Nerkuppai

MR.PL. House stands as a prominent landmark in the village of Nerkuppai, spread across more than 5 acres. Known for its elegant architecture, it has endured through generations as a symbol of heritage and pride.

Built in 1902, this ancestral home was constructed by the four sons of Mr. M.R. Palaniappa Chettiar. It is fondly known as “Idi Thaangi Veedu”, a name reflecting its strong and enduring structure. A distinctive feature of the house is its lightning rod—crafted from a special metal alloy—installed to protect the building from lightning strikes by safely channeling electrical discharges into the ground.

Today, the house continues to be preserved by the 106 grandsons and great-grandsons of the family (MR.PL), keeping alive a legacy that spans over a century.
