July/August
Every year, during the Tamil month of Aadi (July/August), on the auspicious day of Aadipooram, all members of the MR.PL family (pangalis) come together with their families at Rangiyam Karuppar Temple. Rangiyam Karuppar is the kuladeivam of MR.PL family. As part of the traditional rituals, they perform Pongal and Karuppar Poojai to honor the deity. As a customary offering, goats and hens are sacrificed, in keeping with ancestral traditions, to seek blessings and protection for the entire lineage.

September/October
Purattasi Ramar Festival at MR.PL. House

During the Tamil month of Purattasi (September/October), the MR.PL. family celebrates the Ramar Festival at their ancestral home. This nine-day event is marked by the recitation of the Ramayana, honoring Lord Rama and preserving a cherished tradition passed down through generations. The festival begins on the first Friday of Purattasi with a Ganapathi Homam, invoking Lord Ganesha’s blessings for a successful and auspicious celebration. As part of this sacred occasion, free meals (Annadhanam) are generously offered to all devotees throughout the festival, reflecting the family’s spirit of service and devotion.

 


 

Detailed Breakdown Of Events Per Day For Ramar Pattabishegam

First Friday of Purattasi:
Ganapathy Homam.
Saturday :
In the morning, MR.PL pangalis visit the Pariyamaetheeswarar Temple and Rangiyam Karuppar Temple to seek divine blessings before beginning the day’s observances.

In the evening, a distinctive and a unique representation (portrait) of Lord Rama is ceremoniously placed at the Moppu , followed by the reading of the Ramayana, continuing until the narration of Lord Rama’s birth in Ayodhya. This includes the recitation of the Bala Kandam, the first section of the Ramayana, which describes the divine origins and early life of Lord Rama.

Sunday :
Recitation of Ayodhya Kandam from the Ramayana

The Ayodhya Kandam, the second section of the Ramayana, is recited as part of the festival rituals. This section narrates the events leading to Lord Rama’s exile and the emotional moments within the royal family of Ayodhya..

Monday :
Seetha’s Marriage Ceremony in the Evening

The evening is dedicated to the joyous celebration of Seetha’s marriage, marking a sacred and festive occasion.

Tuesday :
Lord Rama’s Exile to the Forest – Recitation of Aaranya Kandam

As part of the Ramayana reading, the Aaranya Kandam (fourth section) is recited, narrating the journey of Lord Rama, along with Seetha and Lakshmana, as they begin their 14-year exile in the forest. This section reflects their trials, divine encounters, and unwavering devotion during their time in the wildernes

Wednesday :
Recitation of Kishkindha Kandam from the Ramayana

The Kishkindha Kandam, the fourth section of the Ramayana, is recited, recounting Lord Rama’s alliance with Hanuman and Sugriva in the kingdom of Kishkindha. This section highlights the search for Seetha and the beginnings of the divine friendship between Rama and Hanuman.

Thursday :
Recitation of Sundara Kandam – Hanuman’s Journey to Lanka

The Sundara Kandam, one of the most revered sections of the Ramayana, is recited. This part narrates Hanuman’s heroic journey to Lanka as Lord Rama’s ambassador in search of Seetha. It highlights Hanuman’s courage, devotion, and strength as he crosses the ocean, finds Seetha in Ashoka Vatika, delivers Rama’s message, and sets the stage for the battle to come.

Friday :
Recitation of Yuddha Kandam – The Great Battle

The Yuddha Kandam, also known as the Book of War, is recited to narrate the epic battle between Lord Rama and Ravana. This powerful section of the Ramayana describes the preparation for war, the arrival of Rama’s army in Lanka, fierce battles, and ultimately, the defeat of Ravana and the reunion of Rama and Seetha.

Return to Ayodhya and Bharadhwaja Virunthu

After defeating Ravana, Rama, Seetha, and Lakshmana journeyed back to Ayodhya. Along the way, they were graciously hosted with a feast at the cottage of Bharadhwaja Rishi. This joyous occasion is commemorated as the Bharadhwaja Virunthu, celebrating the sage’s warm hospitality and blessings.
